| Movies Currently watching: The Asphalt Jungle Directed by John Huston, THE ASPHALT JUNGLE is considered by many to be the defining film of the crime oeuvre. After many years in prison, Doc (Sam Jaffe), a seemingly over-the-hill and retired (i.e. rehabilitated) criminal decides upon his release to make one last go of it. His attempts at reuniting the old gang come up against the intentions of his partner who intends to start a Kentucky horse farm with his share of the take. Doc's lecherous tendencies for young curvaceous women get him nowhere but delight the viewer with standout performances by Jean Hagen and a lusty Marilyn Monroe. The tremendous character development is aided by Huston and Ben Maddow's script, and Huston's direction. Based on a novel by W.R. Burnett. Remade in 1958 as BADLANDERS, in 1963 as CAIRO and 1972 as COOL BREEZE. | | | | Posted at 2010-08-31 15:59:13 , updated at 2010-08-31 16:01:30 | Read more.. |
Books Currently Reading: Fantastic Voyage 2: Destination Brain The story concerns Albert Jonas Morrison, a 21st century neurophysicist, and otherwise an ordinary and un-heroic man, who is kidnapped and taken to the Soviet Union. A major Soviet scientist, Pyotr Shapirov, is in an irreversible coma, and Morrison's special expertise could be of value. The Soviets believe that Morrison may be able to apply his controversial theories to retrieve vagrant thoughts that still may be floating in Shapirov's damaged brain and so provide clues to important work in which Shapirov was engaged. Morrison goes cold with fear because the plan calls for him to be miniaturized along with four Soviet scientists to sub-molecular size, introducing them into Shapirov's body and, ultimately, into his brain. | | | | Posted at 2010-08-29 20:12:24 | Read more.. |

Movies Hotel New Hampshire British director Tony Richardson takes on John Irving's picaresque black comedy about an eccentric and unusually peripatetic family in a film starring Rob Lowe as John Berry, the family's oldest son. John's father, Win (Beau Bridges), is obsessed with hotels, so he buys a run-down seminary in New England, transforming it into the Hotel New Hampshire. The extended family includes the profanity-spouting Franny (Jodie Foster); Lily (Jennifer Dundas); a dwarf, Frank (Paul McCrane), who is gay; John, who is strongly attracted to his sister; Egg (Seth Green), the youngest boy; and Iowa Bob (Wilford Brimley), Win's father. After a number of tragic incidents, including the gang rape of Franny, are seen through the special lenses of black comedy, the family is invited to take over another hotel in Vienna, courtesy of their friend Freud (Wallace Shawn). On arrival, they find that the upper floors of the hotel are dedicated to prostitution and the bottom floors are occupied by terrorists. They also meet Freud's companion, Susie the Bear (Nastassia Kinski), a woman so obsessed with her unattractiveness that she spends all her time in a bear suit. Richardson elicits fine performances from his talented cast in this wild ride through the mind of John Irving. | | | | Posted at 2010-08-29 09:32:58
Movies The Hunt For Red October Before Harrison Ford assumed the mantle of playing Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan hero in Patriot Games, Alec Baldwin took a swing at the character in this John McTiernan film and hit one to the fence. If less instantly sympathetic than Ford, Baldwin is in some respects more interesting and nuanced as Ryan, and drawing comparisons between both actors' performances can make for some interesting post-movie discussion. That aside, The Hunt for Red October stands alone as a uniquely exciting adventure with a fantastic co-star: Sean Connery as a Russian nuclear submarine captain attempting to defect to the West on his ship. Ryan must figure out his true motives for approaching the US. | | | | Posted at 2010-08-29 09:32:16
Books Currently reading; Ox Written by Piers Anthony.
This is the final book in Piers Anthony's 'Of Man and Manta' trilogy.
(Omnivore - Orn - Ox)
After dealing with the strange fungoid ecology of 'Omnivore' and the paleocene creatures of 'Orn', '0X' adds two more elements to the mix, namely intelligent machines and strangest of all pattern entities that cross the frame boundaries of different alternate universes, perceiving life as we would understand it only as disturbances in the fabric of their world. | | | | Posted at 2010-08-24 18:31:02 | Read more.. |
TV-Series Jumong Finally got my paws on this wonderful epic Korean tv-series: Jumong.
Jumong was the founder of Goguryeo in 37 BC. He was the son of General Hae Mo Su and Lady Yoo Hwa, and was raised by King Geum Wa who took him and his mother in when Hae Mo Su was believed to have been killed in an ambush by the Han Dynasty. Soh Suh No was a merchant's daughter who helped Jumong in realizing his dream to build a new country, and later became his second wife.
It's epic in scope, we follow his path from his humble origins as a lazy court sloth to the founder of one of the strongest kingdoms in Korea's history. | | | | Posted at 2010-08-19 20:45:13

Books Currently reading; The Singers Of Time Written by; Frederik Pohl and Jack Williamson
A race of turtle-like creatures conquers Earth, imposing a gentler set of values on humankind, outlawing destructive technology, and denying the validity of human scientific theories. When their home planet disappears into a black hole, however, the aliens' only hope for the future hinges on the possibility that humanity's flawed sciences might contain a glimmer of truth. Two veteran sf authors combine their strengths to produce a novel that both explains and explores the ''mysteries'' of modern science. | | | | Posted at 2010-08-06 22:14:23
